Villages or cities, middle class, upper or lower class, the position is same everywhere. Still, I recommend phased ban of alcoholic products like in Kerala. Understanding delicacy of this problem is also important.

Are revenues more important than health of general public? Women and children face so many abuses due to drinking, even road accidents occur due to this, hence alcohol should be stopped from any manufacturing or sale in any part of the country.

I agree with a law from the central government. All states and Uts cannot be expected to make laws on this issue when it is so pressing. PM Modi should think over this issue.

Gujarat, Nagaland, Manipur or Kerala, all states are struggling with smuggling of wine from porous borders with other states like in Nagaland from Assam. This is the real challenge of banning liquor.

Total ban as you ask is not a case with India or any other country. Even America banned alcohol in 1920s but after crime and illegal production and sales increased they had to lift the ban.

Is it true that Indian constitution speaks about alcohol ban in the country? And if thes then why do governments allow sale of alcohol and other items injurious to public health.

Points that you have raised are logical but banning outright sale and manufacturing is just not feasible in India. In that way the state might invite producers of spurious liquor which is much more harmful.

I am of the view that to save Indian culture and tradition, scenes of alcohol consumption in films should be banned by censor board so that children and youth are not attracted towards them.

You know what, alcohol manufacturers even advertise their products on TV in name of music cds and packaged drinking water, is the government and judiciary sleeping.

This is all a result of the so-called westernization. Yes, Indians consumed alcohol but not to such wide extent. But since colonials came and they paved way for foreign brands, every second Indian now drinks.

Duty of our government should be to ban not only liquor but also tobacco and cigarettes. Warning on their packets should be increased and all illegal shops and manufacturing must be closed.

#Banning…. is something that has to be Banned first! #BeefBan #AlcoholBan #PlasticBan…!!! Centre & State Govt should allocate more funds for education & create a deterrent policy towards Smoking, Tobacco & Alcohol use. According to me it has worked well in Maharashtra. When the world was first introduced to the dangers of AIDS… Govt didn’t ban Prostitution? Education on Safe Sex / Approach towards AIDS… worked wonders. The Government should work more towards deterrent policies rather creating confusion among people by invading their freedom of choice…. when encroached will aggravated the situation more.

This is a great article. Many times banning Alcohol may lead to illegal manufacture and sales of Liquor and that caused so many issues in the Past. Also Liquor may not be something only for enjoyment but in many situations help people overcome their Personal and Business problems when they are under too much tensions. The alternative solutions may not be very easy to follow. My point is that we may look into finding new Drinks which will help people effectively to control their emotions without affecting the health of people. Hence we may need an upgraded solution. For example there are tablets or drinks available for weight loss. I don’t know whether they are good or bad but a thoroughly tested and approved drink will serve the purpose.
